This is our first year carrying this Kenya sourced from our friends at Bonaventure. The Othaya Farmers Co-operative Society is situated about 150km north of Kenya's capital, Nairobi. Othaya is sandwiched between Mt. Kenya and the Aberdare Ranges, at an altitude of 1828 meters (approximately 6,000 feet) above sea level.
The Society was registered in 1956 as a coffee marketing society with an initial membership of 250 farmers. Currently the Society has 17 factories with a total membership of 11,000 small scale farmers.
This Kenya gave us notes of purple fruits like fig and plum, with a complex acidity that is reminiscent of grapefruits. It has a winey presentation and makes us think of dried currants with some jam notes in the mix.
